Nigeria will host the 2019 edition of the West African Football Union (WAFU) Cup, executives of the association have agreed.
The WAFU Cup returned in 2017 with Ghana winning the just concluded edition as host after beating Nigeria in the final played on Sunday, September 24.
Just a day after final of the 2017 edition, WAFU executives met in Ghana and have chosen Nigeria as the next host according to Naija Football Plus.
“Nigeria will host the next WAFU Cup of Nations in 2019, the body met and gave the hosting rights to Nigeria. With a sponsor secured by the body the tournament would remain consistent,” a WAFU official is quoted to say in the report.
Nigeria hosted the WAFU Cup back to back in 2010 and 2011 before Ghana who have also hosted two consecutive editions-2013 and 2017.
Nigeria won the title when they hosted in 2010 and lost in the final to Togo at the 2011 edition also as host.
All the matches of the 2010 and 2011 editions hosted by Nigeria were played in Ogun State-at the Gateway International Stadium in Ijebu-Ode and the MKO Abiola Stadium in the state’s capital Abeokuta.Share on Facebook
