Due to the freezing of two Zenith bank accounts belonging to the Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, the Ekiti State House of Assembly, decided to hold it plenary session on the highway, in protest of the decision by EFCC.

Governor Fayose’s account was frozen by EFCC for allegedly receiving $1.2bn from the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA, for his last election; a claim the Governor have since denied, stating that his election campaign was financed by the Zenith Bank. But EFCC claimed the said amount which emanated from ONSA was part of the N2.1bn arms fund.

The lawmakers gathered under a canopy, carrying placards accusing the Federal Government of deliberately manipulating security agencies to intimidate and harass Fayose over his consistent criticism of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s policies.

Some messages on the placard reads, “We are ready for arrest”, ”Harassing Ekiti lawmakers/government won’t give you 2018,” “No matter your media trial and blackmail, on Fayose we stand” and “Leave Fayose alone.”
